Geyser’s Fertilizer & Lime get behind the One Home One Garden team in Hlutankungu

The One Home One Garden co-operative continues to go from strength to strength, taking a great stride forward when they secured off-take agreements with the Spar and Triangle Store in Highflats and more recently, digital marketplace, Hello Choice.

Up until this point cultivation has taken place largely for home consumption with surplus being sold at their monthly flea markets. However with production targets now to reach this has required that they begin coordinating their production activities in order to reach these targets. Unfortunately soil test results indicated that most household’s soil was very acidic and in need of lime to counter this so that they are able to obtain the yields required of cabbage, spinach and peppers, the crops being focussed on.

We approached Geyser’s Fertilizer and Lime who have supported our projects in the past and were incredibly grateful when they agreed to donating no less than 35 tonnes of lime to these farmers. We would like to thank them for the generous support, as well as Stapylton-Smith Farming CC who covered the cost of the transportation of the lime. We look forward to seeing the One Home One Garden farmers begin to benefit from their improved soil going forward.
